Welcome to Ergonomics QUEST!
Hi there, my name is Nelson and I’m an Australian guy on a mission to work as comfortably as possible.
I spent most of my twenties disregarding ergonomics. It started with 5 years hunched over my laptop getting through a Computer Science degree. This continued onto a string of jobs and side projects where I attacked my keyboard with equal fervour.
Although I had a vague notion I shouldn’t be so “hunched over”, I was oblivious to the toll this was taking on my body.
It wasn’t until I started feeling the tell-tale signs of repetitive strain injury in my wrist that I knew I needed to change my work habits.
I started taking regular breaks, using an ergonomic keyboard and mouse, and setting up my workspace to be more friendly on my body. These simple changes had a big impact, and I realised a lot of the discomfort I’d accepted as “part of the job” didn’t need to be there.
I’m still actively managing the RSI issues in my wrist (there’s no silver bullet), but am now much more able to cope with the demands of work.
Since making these changes, I felt motivated to create this site and share my learnings with you.
My mission on this site is to help you work in greater comfort
How I create content
All the content on this site is currently planned, written and edited by me to ensure we meet the highest quality standards. Or at least, *some* quality standards… let’s not set the bar too high for my writing :p
I try to approach each piece of content with the question: “how can I be of service to the reader here?”
Of course, I also hope this site can make some beer money as a byproduct of helping people. But I believe in adding value as the foundation of long term success, not chasing “money” posts.
As much as possible I try to get my hands on any gear talked about on this blog to get real-life experience with them. In some cases, this isn’t possible and I need to rely on extensive online feedback from real customers.
I’ve personally spent thousands on ergonomic equipment at this point and rely on these items for my everyday work. So, I hope to give you the information needed to pick the best option for your situation.
All in all, I want this site to be a place you can trust for high quality information about working better.
What’s in it for you?
So why should you read Ergonomics Quest? The main reason to check out the site is if you want to greatly improve your work experience and feel better at the end of each work day.
There’s a lot of information online about ergonomics, but it is often fragmented and hard to extract the important info from the noise. Often there is also an overly commercial agenda that undermines the actual value of the content.
Instead of fluffy listicles written by people who have never really needed ergonomic equipment, you’re getting curated content from someone who depends on this gear for his livelihood.
I spend lots of time testing products and conducting research to bring you the best of what I find.
If any of the following resonates with you, you’ll probably enjoy the content you find on this site:
- You want to feel comfortable enough to focus on your work, and not on aches in your body
- You’re sick of feeling like you’re “trading your health for money”
- You’re interested in working more ergonomically, but are unsure where to start
- You’ve already made some changes in your work space and want to see what else is working for other people
If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, I look forward to having you as a reader. To kick things off, why not check out my guide on choosing an ergonomic keyboard.
